These damp chasers are a low voltage element encased in a metal tube which protects by gently heating the air inside the instrument so that no damage occurs from fluctuations in humidity
Sticky keys and hammers are an all too common result of high humidity levels in a piano this can take time to recover. Because the heat is distributed evenly along the entire length of the tube the Damp Chaser is both safe and effective.
